Ok a week or so ago I wake up to the news that Black Cobra was playing a little gig at a bar in SF for the mighty price of $10 after fees. With two small bands from Portland with like minded riffing I was kind of stoked.
The first band was a band called Rabbits. They have a REALLY similar sound to Black Cobra but a bit doomier with the slower tempos. This band was excellent and PERFECT slow headbanging music.
The second band being Diesto who are more of a stoner style band but still has zero lack of heavy repeated riffs. This band was kind of trippy because the drummer looked EXACTLY like a friend of mine who lives in SoCal.
I highly recommend both of the opening artist.
Ok, Black Cobra. Third time this year (and ever) I've seen this band. The show was said to start at 9 so I got there about 8ish... An hour early like I always do to start drinking and I'm sitting at the bar and only to find out that the show doesn't start till 10. Haha.. But they had Anchor Steam Liberty Ale on tap (something I haven't seen yet) so I was fine with it. And when the first band was about to play I spend around in the bar stool only to find out I was impaired and almost fell down. Haha.
Black Cobra was awesome as usual. I think this might of been the best performance I've seen of theirs... Or maybe its because I'm more familiar with them now then I was earlier.
Corrosion Fields is an amazing song live and I think my favorite next to Omniscient. But that intro live and the crushing transition always destroys me. All three times I've seen them they've played Corrosion Fields, so I'm happy.
At the end of the show I had a little talk with Jason and asked him about if they had planned yet another tour yet and he said they had nothing lined up but a show in Alameda with the bands Owl and Iron Mtn, so maybe I'll have to go check that out.
